ABOUT LAW INTERNSHIPS ABROAD

Law is a diverse and challenging field, and those who choose it for an international internship have a fantastic opportunity to learn how this profession is practiced in another country. Intern tasks vary by country and specific internship placement but may include researching and preparing briefs, summarizing court documents, organizing files, and reviewing client documents. Interns may also assist with preparing a case for court. Some administrative support work may also be part of the intern’s responsibilities.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: LAW ABROAD

Because the practice of law varies so much from country to country, those with an interest in international law can’t make a better move than to go abroad for an internship. In addition to learning about the laws of a new country, interns become familiar with a new work culture and get hands-on experience working in a law office. An international internship is a powerful résumé item, demonstrating commitment to working in law and ability to adapt to new situations.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Prospective law interns should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have a strong interest in law. Interns should have good communication and interpersonal skills, and they must be able to work both independently and in groups. Adaptability is crucial as interns will have to adjust to living and working in a new culture.
