This program is designed for students who want to experience American education firsthand and participate in vibrant cultural exchanges. Participants earn 12-15 academic credits each semester, with access to tutoring, digital libraries, and e-books. Students live in dorm-style apartments with free Wi-Fi, a meal plan, athletic facilities, and a full calendar of student activities. Housing

Monroe University provides a variety of housing options for students on its New Rochelle campus, including Gaddy Hall and Allison Hall. These six-story dormitories feature furnished rooms, common areas, dining options, and 24/7 security, along with free Wi-Fi for residents. J-1 exchange students can take credit-bearing courses for their degree, totaling 12-15 US credits.

It’s essential to check with your home institution regarding credit transfer and alignment. Our advisors will assist in coordinating credit transfer approvals with your institution.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Monroe University’s J-1 exchange program, students need to provide university transcripts, a 350-word personal essay, and proof of English proficiency (Duolingo, IELTS, or TOEFL, if their university’s instruction isn’t in English). Applicants must also secure approval from their home institution’s Office of International Programs.

Course Load

Monroe University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The J-1 visa program at Monroe University does not currently support Clinical Medical programs, Early Childhood Education, or graduate programs.
