ABOUT INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INTERNSHIPS ABROAD

Internships in information technology offer the chance to get firsthand experience in this global and rapidly-changing industry. Some interns work for computing companies, and others, for the IT departments of corporations. Depending on the intern’s experience and interests, tasks may include troubleshooting and debugging computers, preparing computers for staff and customers, designing and maintaining websites, and performing research for new technologies. Some administrative support may also be included in the intern’s responsibilities.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ABROAD

The world is getting smaller, and the computing world is shrinking especially fast. Technology is drawing the world closer together, and interns who gain experience in other countries have an advantage in understanding how the industry is changing and what it might look like in the future. An international internship is a fantastic résumé item and demonstrates to future employers a commitment to the field and a depth of experience.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Interns must be comfortable working with technology, but they also need strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly for working in technical support. Interns who go abroad also need to be flexible and ready to adapt to unfamiliar situations and ways of doing things. Organization and self-motivation will also help ensure a successful internship.
