Program Overview

The World Endeavors Summer Study – University of Limerick program offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in Irish culture. Each student takes one intensive, advanced course in Irish literature, sociology, history, law, healthcare, sports science, or business. While studying, students experience Irish culture first-hand in Limerick, a classic Irish city and a world-class university town.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

At the University of Limerick, students have the opportunity to take summer courses while experiencing the Irish culture. Studying at the University is a great choice for students who want a new perspective on their studies, and Ireland is an excellent starting point for exploring the rest of the British Isles and Europe.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Approval received from the home university.
  • Current official undergraduate degree transcript.
  • Copy of your passport (photo page).
  • 10 pre-selected modules/classes, which have been approved by your home university.

Location

Limerick is a true gem of the Emerald Isle where Ireland’s heritage and future meet. The twelfth-century St. Mary’s Cathedral and King John’s Castle can be found here, attesting to Limerick’s rich medieval history. Meanwhile, art museums, galleries, and theaters celebrate Irish art of the more recent past and the present. It’s easy to find a pub where students and local residents gather to watch football matches, while trendy restaurants serve Irish and international cuisine. The University is an important part of local life, and students and professors from around the world ensure Limerick is connected and always interesting.

Housing

Participants stay in on-campus housing at the University of Limerick. Each student has a single bedroom in a shared student apartment. Apartments include a shared living area, kitchen, and lounge with a television. Three meals per day are also provided with the program.

Life in Limerick

Studying abroad in Limerick, Ireland, provides students with exposure to a thriving economy, especially in sectors like technology, pharmaceuticals, and financial services, creating potential internship and job opportunities. The city’s history and culture come to life through visits to landmarks like St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Hunt Museum, as well as participation in traditional Irish music sessions and festivals. Limerick’s close-knit community welcomes international students, fostering friendships and cultural exchange.

Transportation within the city is made convenient by a reliable bus network, while the city’s strategic location enables easy exploration of other Irish cities like Dublin, Galway, and Cork. This well-rounded experience allows students to not only excel academically but also embrace Irish heritage and enjoy the charm of the Emerald Isle.

Support whilst in Ireland

World Endeavors study abroad programs offer full support, starting with airport pickup and accommodation transfer upon arrival followed by an on-site orientation covering health, safety, and local tips. Emergency support from your in-country coordinator, 24/7 travel medical insurance, and continuous contact with your advisor for additional assistance throughout the program helps you feel secure and supported. Whatever challenges life throws your way, we’ve got you covered!

Academics

Students take one course on a full-time basis for the three-week session. Each class is worth three credits. Participants may choose one course from the list of available courses for their session.

Upon successful completion of the program, credits and transcripts are issued by the University of Limerick, which is accredited by the Irish Department of Education.

The World Endeavors process is designed to take the guesswork out of academic credit and credit transfers. Our experienced advisors work with each student and his or her academic advisor before the program begins to ensure students earn the credit expected for courses taken abroad.

Eligibility

Applicants to study abroad with World Endeavors must have completed high school (or equivalent), and, in most cases, must be at least 18 years of age.
