The city is home to a beautiful cathedral and the Château d’Angers, a castle dating back to the ninth century. The other châteaux of the Loire Valley are nearby, making Angers the ideal home base for exploring the dramatic history of France. A variety of concerts, theater performances, and festivals occur in town, and the city has public basketball, volleyball, and tennis facilities. An assortment of museums showcase several centuries’ worth of local art. The city itself is small enough that students find it easy to get around on foot and discover their own favorite restaurants and cafés, yet large enough that all the amenities students need can be easily found.

Housing

Support whilst in France

World Endeavors study abroad programs offer full support, starting with airport pickup and accommodation transfer upon arrival followed by an on-site orientation covering health, safety, and local tips. Emergency support from your in-country coordinator, 24/7 travel medical insurance, and continuous contact with your advisor for additional assistance throughout the program helps you feel secure and supported. Whatever challenges life throws your way, we’ve got you covered!

Academic

The summer program is an intensive language, grammar, and comprehension course. There are two month-long summer sessions in July and August. Students may choose to attend one or both sessions. No prior experience with the French language is required.

After a placement test to determine language level, students begin language courses. These focus on written and oral French (both comprehension and speaking) as well as understanding the language, including phonetics, grammar and vocabulary. The courses are supplemented with work in small groups for speaking practice and independent work with personalized tutoring.

In addition to classroom study, cultural activities and excursions will play an important part in summer courses.

The World Endeavors process is designed to take the guesswork out of academic credit and credit transfers. Our experienced advisors work with each student and his or her academic advisor before the program begins to ensure students earn the credit expected for courses taken abroad.

Eligibility

Applicants to study abroad with World Endeavors must have completed high school (or equivalent), and, in most cases, must be at least 18 years of age. While some programs have minimum GPA requirements and require that applicants be currently enrolled in a college or university, others are open to all participants regardless of age or student status. Please contact a World Endeavors advisor for more detailed eligibility criteria.

Course Load

After taking a French proficiency test, you will be placed in the appropriate class level according to your experience. You will receive 80 hours of French language classes during each 4 week summer session.

Recent France Testimonials

Margaux QInternship in France

I highly recommend WE! The placement has lead me to have a amazing experience.

Caitlin GIntern in France

I cannot say enough good about my experience in Nice, France. I was given the opportunity to take two weeks of French classes (which only took up about half the day, so I had free afternoons to explore the area) and then intern for 8 weeks with an organization in Villefranche. I was incredibly lucky. I was supported by the local staff in France and World Endeavors, but also welcomed with open arms by the president of the Association who not only helped me with professional tasks, but toured me around the area and even invited me to dinner for a home-cooked meal. My host mom also invited me to the theater with her and in lieu of making friends through the school since I was only there for 2 weeks, I actually made some friends through Bumble BFF! Overall, I wouldn't change a single thing about this experience. Despite some days being harder than others, it was so unbelievably worth it. I can't believe it was real!

Caroline FIntern in France

I learned a lot about how social work functions in France. I gained personal experience working with a non profit organization that helps low income people obtain housing. I wanted to learn more about the subject as a whole, work with people, and improve my French and I did all three of those things.

Jillian MStudy Abroad in France

I realized once I got back that I learned more than I thought I did—not that I didn’t think I learned a lot, already. Three of my goals were to make more international friends (check), amp up my French comprehension (check), and expand my worldview (check).
