Program Overview

The University of Alba Iulia (UAB) is highly regarded and internationally accredited. Earning world-class credits at this university can boost your resume and increase your chances of employment. Enhance your skills by learning from respected experts in their field. Enjoy the opportunities for connection and collaboration offered by the rich diversity of this university, which serves both local and international students.

Immerse yourself in student life at this contemporary campus with 21st century infrastructure and facilities, set within the walls of a medieval fortress.

Studying at the UAB in the charming city of Alba Iulia will give you a broader perspective on southeastern Europe, its rich history and diverse inhabitants. Make the most of the affordable cost of living here and explore all that this small but richly tapestried city has to offer, from historical monuments to colorful festivals, dances and delicious food. A little known fact is that Romania has one of the fastest internet speeds in the world, so you’ll never be left high and dry, whether you’re studying or relaxing.

  • Approval received from the home university.
  • Current official undergraduate degree transcript.
  • Valid passport until at least 6 months after your program end date. Copy of your passport (photo page).
  • Most students will be required to obtain a study visa. The application process can be extensive but World Endeavors staff will walk you through it!

Steep yourself in history as you explore the fortress of Alba Iulia, built in the 17th century, with its seven bastions in a stellar shape. This fortress not only contains the campus of the UAB, but the medieval Roman Catholic cathedral, the National History Museum of Unification and several other beautifully preserved historic buildings.

Immerse yourself in the warmth and generosity of the local citizens, with the many ethnic groups and the cross cultural pollination visible in the architecture and cuisine. Most of the younger Romanians speak English, so you will be able to build lifelong connections with your fellow students.

Students can opt to stay in one of the four modern Student Residence Halls, with shared bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen facilities. Another option is for students to rent accommodation in off-campus apartments, which can be arranged with the assistance of the university.

Life in Alba Iulia

Set in the heart of Transylvania, bordered by the Mures River in the east and lush hills in the west, the small city of Alba Iulia dates from ancient times.

When you’re not on campus, take advantage of the affordable cost of living and savor Romanian cuisine: get some traditional Romanian mici sausages from street food vendors, or treat yourself to a gourmet meal at one of the top restaurants. Wherever you wander in this picturesque city, you will encounter the generous and welcoming spirit of the Romanians.

Support whilst in Romania

World Endeavors study abroad programs offer full support, starting with airport pickup and accommodation transfer upon arrival followed by an on-site orientation covering health, safety, and local tips. Emergency support from your in-country coordinator, 24/7 travel medical insurance, and continuous contact with your advisor for additional assistance throughout the program helps you feel secure and supported. Whatever challenges life throws your way, we’ve got you covered!

Academic credit and transcripts are issued by the University of Alba Iulia after the successful completion of the program. The University of Alba Iulia is a fully-accredited, state-recognized institution of higher learning. Its teaching will help you develop the skills you need to succeed, with a mix of lecture-style tuition and practical experience.

The World Endeavors process is designed to take the guesswork out of academic credit and credit transfers. Our experienced advisors work with each student and his or her academic advisor before the program begins to ensure students earn the credit expected for courses taken abroad.

Applicants to study abroad with World Endeavors must have completed high school (or equivalent), and, in most cases, must be at least 18 years of age. While some programs have minimum GPA requirements and require that applicants be currently enrolled in a college or university, others are open to all participants regardless of age or student status. Please contact a World Endeavors advisor for more detailed eligibility criteria.
