From the still-standing ancient temples of the gods, to dreamy beachscapes and sunsets, Greece is one of the world’s most desirable locations. Start your exploration of this effervescent country with a visit to Athens, one of the oldest cities in the world and the birthplace of democracy. Walk up to view the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Acropolis, the political and cultural center of ancient Greece. Wander down into Keramikos, a diverse and buzzing neighborhood filled with quirky eateries and avant garde galleries.
No visit to Greece would be complete without experiencing some of its over 200 inhabited islands by ferry. The Cyclades group of small islands, including Mykonos and Ios, are the best choice for first-time island hoppers because they are connected by short ferry rides.
From there head north to Thessaloniki, home to museums, churches and hundreds of tavernas in some of the coolest neighborhoods, including Pylaia where our study abroad program is based.
