While major cities like Bucharest might experience petty crimes such as pickpocketing, especially in crowded areas, the crime rate is relatively low. However, travelers should exercise standard precautions and be aware of their surroundings.

Do I Need a Visa to Travel to Romania?

Whether you need a visa to travel to Romania depends on your nationality, the type of program you decide to participate in, and the duration of your stay. Citizens from many countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, do not need a visa for short stays of 90 days or less that are for tourism, business, or visiting family/friends.
