The World Endeavors Summer Study in Northern Ireland – Queen’s University Belfast offers students the chance to take an intensive course in Irish studies at the prestigious and historic Queen’s University Belfast. Students gain a richer, deeper understanding of Irish culture, particularly the unique atmosphere of Northern Ireland, while experiencing life in the fascinating city of Belfast. Outside the classroom, students have the opportunity to meet with representatives of Northern Ireland’s political parties, who help students learn more about the tumultuous history and current political issues of Northern Ireland. The program includes travel opportunities to sites such as the Stormont Parliament Buildings, Clifton Street Cemetery, Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, and the historic city of Londonderry, where students visit the Tower Museum and the Museum of Free Derry and take a tour of the murals and city walls. For students who wish to travel independently, Belfast is conveniently located for day and weekend trips.

Location
Belfast has reinvented itself in recent years to become one of the most up-and-coming cities of the United Kingdom. The city center has seen massive redevelopment, and locals and tourists alike now flock to the city’s museums, concert halls, and art galleries. Housing
Single, furnished, self-catered student accommodations are provided. Students applying on time are likely to be accommodated in a university residence hall as preference is given to international students in the allocation of University accommodation. All university housing is within walking distance of the main campus. Students have access to kitchen facilities to prepare meals, and there are also many restaurants and cafés nearby. Reasonably priced meals are available at the university’s Student Union.

Academic
The Summer School at Queen’s University Belfast is a three-week program for international students to explore the historical, cultural, political, and socio-economic aspects of Northern Ireland. Week 1 covers Belfast’s culture and history, while weeks 2 and 3 allow participants to choose from thematic strands like storytelling, Irish studies, leadership, or sustainability. The program includes academic lectures, site visits, and community engagement, offering students an immersive experience in Northern Irish society.
Eligibility
Applicants to study abroad with World Endeavors must have completed high school (or equivalent), and, in most cases, must be at least 18 years of age. While some programs have minimum GPA requirements and require that applicants be currently enrolled in a college or university, others are open to all participants regardless of age or student status.
