JillianStudy in France

I realized once I got back that I learned more than I thought I did—not that I didn’t think I learned a lot, already. Three of my goals were to make more international friends (check), amp up my French comprehension (check), and expand my worldview (check).

EdenStudy in Spain

Honestly it was the best semester I’ve ever had. I met so many people and learned so many things. I found a new love for a different country. I would definitely recommend World Endeavors to anyone who wants a life-changing experience!

My advisor at World Endeavors was absolutely excellent! Her expertise and delightful people skills were exactly what sealed the deal, making World Endeavors my final decision for study abroad.”

AliciaStudy in Thailand

I have to say that what I remember, as much as the delicious colors and flavors of Thailand, are the people I crossed paths with – the other students who became such good friends, and the local Thais who showed me such kindness. And of course the food. I still dream of the food.”

It was amazing to be able to say I traveled to six countries in one semester.

Scotland FAQs

Is Scotland in the UK?

Scotland is one of the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom (UK), along with England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh. While Scotland has its own legal, educational, and religious institutions and limited self-governance through the Scottish Parliament, it is still part of the UK and represented in the UK Parliament.

What Language Do They Speak in Scotland?

In Scotland, the predominant language spoken is English. However, there are two notable indigenous languages: Scots, with its various dialects, is widely understood and spoken by many, while Scottish Gaelic, primarily found in the western Highlands and the Western Isles, has fewer speakers but is the focus of preservation efforts. The distinct Scottish accent in English and the diversity of its cities also mean that different communities speak numerous other languages.

What Currency Does Scotland Use?

Scotland uses the British pound sterling (often referred to as the “pound”), which is denoted by the symbol “£” or the ISO code “GBP.” While banknotes issued in Scotland might look different from those in other parts of the UK due to Scottish banks having the right to print their designs, they are still pound sterling notes and hold the same value as their counterparts in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

When is the Best Time to Travel to Scotland?

The optimal time to visit Scotland is from late spring to early autumn (May to September), offering milder weather and longer days, especially in May and June. While July and August draw the most tourists, especially with events like the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, it’s also the best period for wildlife spotting. However, if you prefer a picturesque countryside adorned with fall colors, autumn (October to November) in the Scottish Highlands is incredibly captivating, though the weather starts to cool.

Is it Safe to Travel to Scotland?

Scotland is generally considered a safe destination for travelers, with a relatively low violent crime rate, especially in rural regions. Significant cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow might experience occasional petty crimes like pickpocketing in tourist-heavy areas. Travelers should be cautious on narrow and winding rural roads, especially in the Highlands, and be prepared for unpredictable weather if engaging in outdoor activities.
