ABOUT WEB AND GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIPS ABROAD
A World Endeavors internship in web and graphic design offers the opportunity to learn about the different approaches, techniques, and cultural contexts of design. Interns work with typography, photography, and computer-generated images to create distinctive looks for magazines, ad campaigns, and websites within design firms, marketing agencies, or the design departments of larger companies. Interns work individually or collaborate and support a larger creative team with research and administrative work on a wide range of projects.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: WEB AND GRAPHIC DESIGN ABROAD
Interning abroad is a great way to learn how theories of design are applied in different cultural contexts and therefore tailored to different audiences. The hands-on work of an internship gives participants a solid foundation in web and graphic design, and the skills learned while living abroad are invaluable in a career where adapting to different clients, projects, and venues is an essential part of any design professional’s job.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Depending on the internship placement, participants may benefit from prior experience with design software such as Freehand, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator and with website development applications. Along with creativity and technical skills, a successful intern must have strong communication and listening skills as well as strong observational abilities. This is important because success often depends on the ability to respond to the needs of the company or clients. In addition, living and working abroad can be challenging. Being flexible and adaptable will help you thrive in your internship abroad.
