ABOUT VETERINARY SCIENCE INTERNSHIPS ABROAD
A World Endeavors internship in veterinary sciences gives interns the chance to experience the variety of veterinary work around the world and to get hands-on experience working with animals. Interns work alongside veterinary professionals in practices that treat domestic livestock or with exotic species. Depending on where they work, interns may assist with visits to local farms, provide counseling for the care of domestic and wild animals, assist with surgeries and medical procedures, and prescribe medicines based on veterinarians’ recommendations. Some administrative support work may also be part of interns’ responsibilities.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: VETERINARY SCIENCES ABROAD
Few fields are as varied as veterinary medicine, and an internship abroad offers the opportunity to learn how vets around the world meet the challenges of their environments and communities. Interns gain valuable experience working directly with animals and their caretakers, and the experience of living and working abroad teaches interns that adaptability is crucial to veterinary work.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Veterinary interns should have a strong interest in working with animals, and they must be willing to adapt to unfamiliar working situations and different cultural practices regarding animal care. Good communication and interpersonal skills are important. Interns should be motivated, self-directed, and eager to learn more about their chosen field.
