IN THE SPOTLIGHT: GOVERNMENT ABROAD
Those who want to be involved in the crafting of public policy need practical experience with the processes of government, and the best way to get this experience is through an internship. Interning abroad exposes interns to the different ways government is conducted in different parts of the world, giving them a more global perspective as they prepare for their careers.
Successful international government interns must have a strong interest in government work and a curiosity about new political systems. Interns must also have good communication, organization, and research skills and be strongly self-motivated. They should be able to meet deadlines, adjust to unfamiliar circumstances, think creatively, and work both independently and in groups.
