ABOUT CRIMINAL JUSTICE INTERNSHIPS ABROAD

Interns who are interested in the criminal justice field have a variety of options available to them depending on where their internship takes place. Some interns in the past have worked with local law enforcement officials, while others have worked in the security departments of private companies. Interns often assist with the preparation of reports, casework services, and investigative field research. Many of these internships offer the chance to apply academic theories of law enforcement to real-world criminal justice settings. Interns may also conduct research and provide administrative support during their internship.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: CRIMINAL JUSTICE ABROAD

Law enforcement and security are carried out in different ways around the world. Experiencing these different approaches firsthand is one of the best ways to become more skilled and adaptable to unfamiliar circumstances—a crucial trait in this field. An internship can also bridge the gap between studying criminal justice theory and having hands-on experience of the law enforcement system.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

In the criminal justice field, it’s especially important that prospective interns be adaptable and ready to adjust to an unfamiliar culture and workplace. Good communication and interpersonal skills are a must. An academic background in criminal justice is not required, but it can be an advantage for the placement process.
