ABOUT ARCHITECTURE & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE INTERNSHIPS ABROAD

Interns who work in architecture and landscape architecture face a diverse field. Some architecture interns help develop infrastructure projects in impoverished urban areas, while others work for private design companies. Interns in this field assist with project design, preparing presentations, and maintaining equipment. They may also receive training in drafting and model making. Many interns also do some research and administrative support within the office.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ARCHITECTURE & LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ABROAD

Working abroad in this field gives interns the chance to see how architects and landscape architects work within different climates, geographical conditions, and design traditions; they also learn how to adjust to all these conditions themselves. There’s no better way for aspiring architects to broaden their understanding of what design can do while gaining experience in a working architectural office.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Applicants who want to work abroad in this field should be self-directed and have a strong interest in architecture. Successful interns in architecture and landscape architecture should be creative and ready to come up with new ideas while also being responsive to the needs of the project or client. Good interpersonal and communication skills are very important. Depending on the internship placement, some familiarity with drafting and 3-D software may be helpful.
