With its beautiful landscapes and friendly people, Sri Lanka provides opportunities for relaxation and adventure. Explore this awe-inspiring country from the beaches to the lush forests to the majestic mountains. The locals are welcoming and provide the opportunity to learn about the history of this island nation from their perspective.
Although Sri Lanka has shown its resilience following years of challenges, the country and its people still need help in rebuilding and restoring. Local nonprofit organizations need the support of volunteers in protecting the country’s wildlife populations and natural resources and providing further educational opportunities for children in the community. By assisting with these projects and others, World Endeavors volunteers are able to make a meaningful and sustainable contribution to the country of Sri Lanka.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, though exceptions to this age requirement may be made on a case-by-case basis. Successful volunteers are hardworking, flexible, and open to truly immersing themselves in Sri Lankan culture.
World Endeavors volunteers live in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. As it is the largest city in Sri Lanka, there is no shortage of activities for volunteers; from cultural, to educational, to entertainment activities, it is easy to keep busy in Colombo. This may include visiting historical colonial buildings, Gangaramaya Temple, sampling local cuisine, or exploring the country from coast to coast. Volunteers in Sri Lanka are able to experience a mixture of modern life and history in this vibrant city.
Volunteers in Sri Lanka will live and work in the capital city of Colombo, a bustling city located on the west coast of this small island country.
World Endeavors volunteers in Sri Lanka can contribute to the following projects:
World Endeavors Childcare and Orphanage Assistance volunteers in Sri Lanka work to help children from underprivileged and impoverished communities.
World Endeavors Teaching volunteers in Sri Lanka assist with planning lessons and teaching a variety of subjects, including English, math, and arts and crafts.
Volunteers in Sri Lanka share a furnished house with other volunteers, where a small staff oversees the house and prepares meals. Housing accommodations are modest, safe, and clean, but may differ from Western norms in terms of space or amenities. Volunteers will share a room with other participants of the same gender and will have shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Participants are expected to respect the volunteer home and their fellow residents and be open to the adventure of experiencing a different way of life in a new environment.
The World Endeavors Volunteer in Sri Lanka program is flexible in duration and can be tailored to last between 2 to 12 weeks. If you have the time, we recommend a stay of at least 4 weeks. Admissions are rolling, and programs can begin on any of the following days.
