The World Endeavors Summer Study in Germany – Freie Universität Berlin program is designed for students who are interested in spending their summer delving into the German language and culture. These programs offer intensive German language studies in five proficiency levels as well as a variety of courses taught in English. Students will spend their summer enjoying and immersing themselves in the lively and bustling German capital of Berlin.
Freie Universität is the perfect program for students in all disciplines who are interested in learning or improving their German language skills while coming to better understand German culture and history. Berlin is a fascinating metropolis that offers students an abundance of opportunities to get out and explore not only the city, but Germany as a whole.
There is never a dull moment in Germany’s capital and largest city. Divided at the end of World War II until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, this modern metropolis is a central European hub for culture, science, media, and politics. With its extensive transportation system of trains, trams, and buses, students can easily access all the city has to offer. They can watch the talented street performers, visit the Berlin Zoo, taste the ever-popular Currywurst (a standard German bratwurst topped with a curry-based ketchup), and gain extensive knowledge on the city’s storied past. Fans of architecture will enjoy the eclectic assortment of buildings while those interested in spending sunny afternoons outside can frequent a number of parks and green space. Anyone keen to peruse museums and monuments will have plenty of options at their fingertips. No matter their interests, visitors to Berlin will surely find entertainment around every corner.
“What I remember most vividly about Germany is the gorgeous natural scenery and buildings, the sound of church bells and town clocks, and connecting with Germans through a common enjoyment of watching World Cup soccer. The amazing food and wine, strikingly beautiful towns, rivers, mountains, and forests, and friendly people make Germany a great place to visit!”
- Shannon, Operations Assistant
