The World Endeavors Study in England – Edge Hill University program takes place in Ormskirk in northwestern England. Edge Hill University is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in northern England, offering a wide range of courses to more than 20,000 students from the United Kingdom and abroad.

Life on campus is busy and varied with sports teams, student societies, performing arts groups, and even an on-campus nightclub. Students at Edge Hill are truly part of a community, and self-reported student satisfaction is very high here. Academic life at Edge Hill is on the cutting-edge with well-regarded instructors teaching in every field and a strong integration of technology with the student learning experience.

World Endeavors students experience the British university system, attending lectures by experts in their fields and conducting research in small groups. Studying at Edge Hill is a fantastic chance to delve deep academically, get involved socially, and experience the history and culture of the United Kingdom.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Edge Hill University is a great setting for students who want to experience English life outside of London and have a great home base for exploring the rest of the country. Students who like to balance work and play will feel at home with Edge Hill’s well-regarded academic programs and lively and active student body. World Endeavors students here form strong connections to the university as they get to know their classmates through residence halls, classes, and extracurricular activities.

Last year, The Times Higher Education awarded Edge Hill University the University of the Year title. Edge Hill University excels in academic quality, the safety of its campus, and the satisfaction and post-graduation employability of its students.

Location

The World Endeavors Study in England program takes place on a vibrant campus on 160 picturesque acres near Ormskirk in West Lancashire. Ormskirk is a picture-perfect example of a charming English town—cobbled streets, centuries-old architecture, traditional English gardens, and plenty of pubs and restaurants. The people here are friendly and are always willing to welcome visitors.

Housing

Each student is accommodated in a single room in a campus residence hall in Forest Court with both local and international students. Housing includes a single bed, desk, desk chair, lamp, easy chair, and wardrobe. Individual rooms do not have telephones. All halls have kitchen and bathroom facilities on every floor, and bed linens and towels are provided. Free WiFi is available to all students.

Life in Ormskirk

Ormskirk is an ideal location for students wanting to experience the slower pace of life in a British market town while being close to the vibrant, metropolitan cities of Manchester and Liverpool. The countryside in the northwest of England is beautiful with the famously scenic Lake District nearby. Trains and buses connect Ormskirk to London and the rest of Great Britain, making it easy for students to get out and explore.

Support whilst in England

World Endeavors study abroad programs offer full support, starting with airport pickup and accommodation transfer upon arrival followed by an on-site orientation covering health, safety, and local tips. Emergency support from your in-country coordinator, 24/7 travel medical insurance, and continuous contact with your advisor for additional assistance throughout the program helps you feel secure and supported. Whatever challenges life throws your way, we’ve got you covered!

Academic

Academic credit and transcripts are issued by Edge Hill University after the successful completion of the program. Edge Hill University is a fully-accredited, state-recognized British institution of higher learning.

The World Endeavors process is designed to take the guesswork out of academic credit and credit transfers. Our experienced advisors work with each student and his or her academic advisor before the program begins to ensure students earn the credit expected for courses taken abroad.

Eligibility

Applicants to this program must have:

  • A GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • Fluency in English

Course Load

Teaching and assessment in United Kingdom universities often differ from the norms of American institutions. Most courses at Edge Hill University meet for lectures as well as seminar/tutorial sessions, and significant independent study is expected. For these reasons, we recommend students take only four courses per semester. However, students may take five courses per semester if they obtain approval from their Academic or Study Abroad Advisor.

Recent England Testimonials

Valentina WInternship in England

I am a Canadian who did an internship through World Endeavours last summer in London, England. I was a little apprehensive as I have never done anything like this before and did not know whether these companies were a scam. I am happy to report the World Endeavours was definitely not a scam. They were very professional from the first contact and guided me through the entire process. They managed to find me an internship in the exact profession I wanted (law) and provided me with safe, comfortable accommodation. I was met, while in London, in the first couple of days by their British representative who offered me practical and emotional support. I would highly recommend this company and wish everyone the best on their internship searches.

Courtney BIntern in England

This was an amazing experience that I would not have been able to partake in if it was not for World Endeavors. World Endeavors took care all of the organizing and planning leading up to the trip; they were also there during the trip as well. I felt very prepared and confident to go abroad after reassurance from World Endeavors. This is a very trustworthy agency and I believe everyone should take the opportunity to complete a program through this agency. The work they do is phenomenal and I probably would not have taken the leap abroad if I didn't go through an agency.

Philip FIntern in England

This experience has changed the way I think as exploring a much larger country than my home country has made me realise to think big and grab every opportunity with both hands as they may not be available later on. My WE coordinator was extremely resourceful and helped me from the start and towards the end of my program 🙂

Julia GIntern in England

This experience gave me great insight into the mental health field within the UK and urged me to take the next step in my education and pursue my masters in London. Thank you for everything! Especially my WE coordinator, this year has been crazy but she helped ease the anxiety and stress during COVID!
