The University’s main campus in Buenos Aires offers international students the perfect opportunity to explore Argentine culture. Known as the “Paris of the South,” Buenos Aires offers students an affordable and rewarding alternative to studying abroad in Europe. Students enjoy week nights out tango dancing, watching fútbol, or visiting museums in central Buenos Aires, while weekends are ideal for planning adventurous excursions to the countryside that include hiking, trekking, swimming, camping, and skiing.
The World Endeavors Study in Argentina program at Universidad Austral is a great fit for a wide range of students. Those wishing to learn about Argentina or Latin American history and culture enjoy the convenience of taking courses in English, while advanced Spanish speakers benefit from the University’s immersive and academically challenging courses in the full range of subjects offered.
In the far corner of South America rests Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Many consider this to be the most European city in South America, yet it dances with Latin flair. Although the city was shaped by European immigrants centuries ago, the culture of the city has taken a on shape of its own. Artists cover drab walls with splashes of bright pastels, particularly prominent in the La Boca neighborhood. Even the presidential palace, aptly named la Casa Rosada, boasts a bright rose color from top to bottom.
Days can be filled with attending antique markets, sampling street food, listening to street musicians, or touring the famous modern art museums. Meet up with friends in the evening to enjoy a classic Argentine steak dinner followed by a glass of Fernet. Afterwards, attend a tango class or catch a fútbol game with some friends. No matter your interests, there is never a dull moment in Buenos Aires!
"Argentina is such a fascinating, beautiful, confusing, and diverse country, and being able to witness it firsthand was one of the highlights of my college career. Living and learning in another country was so rewarding, and the experience gave me a whole new excitement for life. Now I always look for opportunities to practice my Spanish and the other skills I learned there. I'm so glad I made the leap to study in Argentina!"
-Molly, Program Advisement Intern
