Caitlin- Kiama Excursion

This past weekend, two friends and I took the train to Kiama, a little coastal town south of Sydney. It was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city!

Saturday was spend exploring Kiama. Kiama is famous for its blowhole, which we watched spurt water high up into the sky; it was quite the sight to see! Kiama also has a big lighthouse and a black sand beach that attracts many visitors and is also home to a local market held on Saturdays. If you are in Sydney looking for a break from the city life, Kiama is a great place to be. While there isn’t much else to see in the immediate area other than what I have mentioned, Kiama has a more relaxing, “take-your-time” feel to it than Sydney.

On Sunday, the three of us ran the Kiama Coastal Classic. Participants choose between a 14k, 10k, and 2.5k. I am not a runner so I stuck with the 2.5k, which was still pretty challenging as it went up a big hill! I decided to push myself to do the race, and I am glad I did as I got to run around the coast and take in all the views. I try to challenge myself when I go to foreign countries as I want to get the most out of my time there as I can; this race was a good way to do that!

I would highly recommend Kiama as a quick weekend getaway from the city to anyone.
