Caitlin- Americans in Sydney (4th of July)

If I could give someone moving to Sydney one piece of advice, it would be to reach out and network to make friends, especially on social media. When I came to Sydney, I joined a group on Facebook called Americans in Sydney. It turns out, there are a lot of us here. The page also holds several events in the city, including a 4th of July party, which I was able to attend and actually volunteer at. To my surprise, there were hundreds of Americans at this party, so it was a great way to talk to people and make new connections in this huge city. It was also a great way to get a little taste of life back home, with good American music, dancing, drinks, face paint, and Texas BBQ. Even if the party scene isn’t for you, using social media to find groups and events like this is an easy and convenient way to meet new friends to explore the city with, and trust me, it’s a lot more fun that way!
