1.The Adventure

Although Cuernavaca is far from a Mexican beach destination, it is home to several aquatic attractions that are sure to quench your thirst for adventure. There are the thermal baths of Las Huertas, the diving and kayaking oasis of Las Estacas, and several other modern water parks that keep both travelers and locals alike cool during the hot summer months. You can also go rafting on the Amacuzac River or explore the waterfall Salto de San Anton.

2. The Markets

One of the best ways to test your Spanish skills and bring home some souvenirs for family and friends back home is to visit a local market. Pay a visit to the famous market near the Palacio de Cortes, the city’s large stone fortress, that is stocked with artisan items and handicrafts galore.

3. The Ruins

Cuernavaca is home to several important archaeological sites in Mexico, namely Teopanzolco, Tepoztlan, and Xochicalco. All are accessible via public transportation from Cuernavaca, and will provide a lens into the ancient history of Mexico and its many indigenous cultures. These sites are not to be missed!

4. The History

The city is also a major historical destination and the previous home of notable figures such as Hernán Cortés and artist Diego Rivera. One could spend hours wandering the streets and marveling at the colonial architecture, old churches, and well-curated museums. You could also take a day trip to nearby Taxco, a Mexican city historically famous for silver production. In a country so rich in history, the possibilities are endless.

5. The Language

One of Cuernavaca’s biggest attractions are its many Spanish schools, which draw visitors from around the world who are interested in learning Spanish. Get together with people for conversation hours, get out and meet new friends, and practice the language any chance you can get! The best way to learn Spanish is to immerse yourself in it, so put yourself out there and practice wherever you can.
