Baños

Have you ever swung off the edge of the world? Don’t worry– you’ll come swinging right back at the Casa del Sol in Baños, Ecuador. In addition to this great photo-op, this small town several hours south of Quito is home to waterfalls, hot springs, and beautiful markets; it is the perfect getaway for adventure- lovers, who can try canyoning up a waterfall or rafting down the river!

GalapagosThe Galapagos

A bucket-list location for many, the Galapagos Islands are a must-see excursion for nature enthusiasts and adventure-lovers alike. Walk in Charles Darwin's footsteps as you explore the islands, visiting tortoises and bird watching between your scuba diving and mountain biking tours. As one of the most untouched areas in the world, you are guaranteed to be inspired and awed by nature on this volcanic mountain chain.

Otavalo

This cultural Andean town is not to be missed, especially because of its famous Sunday Market. The entire town shows up to sell traditional goods and handicrafts, and here is a great opportunity to practice your Spanish– bargaining is highly encouraged. Come away with a blanket made of alpaca wool, a wooden flute, or an Andean doll, and keep in mind that this is a great opportunity to pick up gifts for the folks back home!

La PlayaTena

Visiting the Amazon has been a dream destination for many since elementary school, and now this dream can become a reality! Only a few hours from Quito, you can trek through the rainforest, go whitewater rafting, and interact with nature in one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet. You won’t want to miss this!

La Playa

A bit farther out of the way but well worth the trip is the pristine coast of Ecuador. Visit the tranquil village of Puerto Lopez and partake in a whale-watching tour, or head farther south to Montañita, Ecuador’s beach hub for international travelers and a great location if you’ve ever dreamt of learning to surf. Get some sand, sun, and relaxation in before heading back to Quito, and be sure to try the seafood!

Bonus Day Trip – La Mitad del Mundo

In just a quick bus ride from Quito, you can find yourself divided– standing on both the Northern and the Southern hemispheres. Ecuador is famously named after the geographic line that runs through it, and a trip to this tiny country just isn’t complete without a visit to this small theme park dedicated to the Equator.
