Beat Procrastination: Go Abroad (THIS SUMMER!) in 4 Easy Steps
It’s hard to make summer plans when you’re stuck dealing with the details of life (or your own bad habits!). Don’t despair: it isn’t too late to find a meaningful volunteer program abroad for THIS SUMMER. Here are 4 ways to get it done and go abroad.
1.Contact WE Staff Right Away
Even if you aren’t 100% sure you can go, give us a call. Our staff are trained travel experts who will help you narrow your options and make quick decisions. Message us via email or social media or, better yet, give us a call at 612-729-3400 for a free one-on-one brainstorming session with our patient and knowledgeable staff.
2. Be Flexible With Your Requirements
Once you get in touch with us, we’ll recommend specific countries and programs. Be aware that some programs require longer turnaround time to secure visas, housing or work details. We will help you make a realistic assessment of which programs are best for you and your timeframe.
3.Renew your Passport and Scan Flights (but don’t buy yet!)
An up-to-date passport is a smart thing to have whether or not you go abroad this summer, and it never hurts to check airfare early in the planning process. Find a great ticket price for Thailand even though you applied to go to Costa Rica? Let us know and we can swap your location. Don’t buy your flight until you’ve officially been accepted into the program – but get started early!
4.Keep Friends and Family in the Loop
Ok: You’ve talked with the WE staff, found an affordable program, and you think you can swing the airfare–but now you are being bombarded by questions from your support network (i.e. your parents). Get them involved as soon as possible by sharing information and connecting them with our staff. We’re happy to talk with parents and will take their calls or emails anytime. You will find parents are more willing and able to help you transition abroad if they are relaxed and informed.
