Environmental Conservation in Thailand

Thailand is known for its environmental and biological diversity. Environmental degradation is a significant concern in Thailand. Problems such as loss of bio-diversity, deforestation, soil erosion, and environmental pollution threaten human survival. Environmental conservation projects address these issues directly through community education and collaboration and hands-on conservation work.

Volunteers participate in programs to develop medicinal plants, support local farmers with crop development and seed distribution, assist in erosion control planting efforts, or maintain local nurseries. These simple village-based nurseries produce seedlings used to support reforestation efforts through the establishment of community and private forests. Everything produced in the nurseries go directly to the local people. Volunteers may work with local villagers or other volunteers in activities such as sowing, mulching, watering, weeding, and farming.

Eligibility: Volunteering isn't for everyone. Volunteering in Thailand requires flexibility and patience. Individuals should be self-starters, who genuinely respect the Thai people and their culture. Volunteers go to Thailand to share their time and energy with the people, to experience the Thai culture first hand, and to grow as citizens of the planet.

Pre-Departure Information: Before participants embark on their trip abroad, they will be provided a pre-departure guide that includes important details about their project. In addition, volunteers may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions.

Back_topOrientation:

Participants will receive an orientation after arriving in Thailand that will acquaint them with the culture, the program, and the surrounding area.

Back_topHousing:

Most placements are residential which means that the volunteer will stay at the local school or orphanage or in staff housing at a national park. Homestays with local host families may also be available.

Activities:

To help participants learn more about Thai culture and integrate with the community, 30 hours of Thai language instruction is included for all programs of 4 weeks or longer.

For volunteers placed outside Bangkok, where the language school is not easily accessible, alternate language training options will be arranged.  Volunteers placed outside Bangkok may receive less than 30 hours of training, for logistical reasons.
