teaching children in thailand

Volunteers help shape young lives in Thailand by sharing their English skills and teaching talents. They teach English to elementary school children ranging in age from 6-13 years. Many schools lack the funds to provide effective English language training. Native or fluent English speakers with or without formal teaching experience can contribute greatly to a child's educational development.

Volunteers teach school courses in collaboration with local English teachers. Volunteers are also encouraged to coordinate additional activities such as games, painting, and health education.

Eligibility: Volunteering isn't for everyone. Volunteering in Thailand requires flexibility and patience. Individuals should be self-starters, who genuinely respect the Thai people and their culture. Volunteers go to Thailand to share their time and energy with the people, to experience the Thai culture first hand, and to grow as citizens of the planet.

Pre-Departure Information: Before students embark on their trip abroad, they will be provided a pre-departure guide that includes important details about their project. In addition, students may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions.

Back_topOrientation:

Participants will receive an orientation after arriving in Thailand that will acquaint them with the culture, the program, and the surrounding area.

Back_topHousing:

Volunteers stay with carefully chosen host families who live near to the project site.  Host families are welcoming and generally are very excited to have volunteers as their guests.  All meals with the family (usually 2 per day) will be included.  Lunch at the project site is not included; however, food in Thailand is extremely reasonably priced.

Some few projects may be residential, which means that the volunteers stay on the project site.

Activities:

To help participants learn more about Thai culture and integrate with the community, a short Thai language course is included for all programs of 4 weeks or longer.

For volunteers placed outside of Bangkok, where the language school is not easily accessible, alternate language training options will be arranged.
