health care and health education in tanzania
The health clinics and hospitals of Tanzania are overworked, understaffed, and suffer from shortages of supplies. Volunteers who participate in this program will have the opportunity to shadow doctors and nurses, as well as help out with the routine functioning of the clinic. Participants with education and experience in health care, such as doctors, nurses and other licensed professionals are greatly needed, but untrained individuals with a sincere desire to help can also make a difference. No experience necessary. Volunteers with an interest in public health are also needed to educate the community about HIV/AIDS, give presentations about the disease and how to prevent its spread. No experience is necessary for the health education placement, just a sincere desire to help the people of Tanzania.

Pre-Departure Information:
Before participants embark on their trip, they will be provided a pre-departure guide that includes important details about their program abroad. In addition, students may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions.
Orientation:
Upon arrival in Tanzania, volunteers are met at the airport and taken to their housing. They will receive an orientation that will familiarize them with the local area, Tanzanian culture, and their program. Afterwards, volunteers travel to their project site where they will be introduced to their host family and their project. Some more remote project locations have alternate housing, such as shared program housing. English is widely spoken in Tanzania, but many other languages are also spoken. While not everyone is fluent in English, it is not necessary that volunteers have any knowledge of any language other than English prior to their placement.
Housing:
Volunteers stay with local Tanzanian host families. Host families are very welcoming and enjoy have international visitors come to stay with them. 3 meals per day of traditional Tanzanian food with the host family are also included.
