Participant Life:
Participants will find ample opportunities to experience the authentic Spanish life throughout their experience in Valencia. Valencia is the birthplace of paella, a delectable combination of seafood and rice, and there's nothing like relaxing at a sidewalk cafe with a fresh cafe con leche. The river Turia, which used to flow through the heart of Valencia, was diverted in the 1950's and the graceful bridges which used to span it now reside in a sunny municipal park. Valencia is also famous for its wide Mediterranean white-sand beaches. Valencia is the site of the historic battles of El Cid, Spain's national hero, who fought against the invading Moors, and many festivals in the city and surrounding villages celebrate him. Valencia is a city both ancient and new, and participants will have the opportunity to experience this amazing culture first-hand.
Activities:
Optional weekend excursions are also available for groups or individual students and interns to places like Cordoba, Granada, Ronda or even Morocco.
Considerations:
Due to cultural considerations, it is very difficult to secure an internship placement during the month of August. World Endeavors encourages applicants to schedule their trips accordingly. Applicants will be able to continue language classes during the month of August; however, internships will not likely be available during this month. Spanish language proficiency is determined by a placement test. Beginners in the language, as determined by our staff, should plan to take more than 2 weeks of Spanish language training.
