Eligibility:
Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or equivalent to be eligible for the program.
Pre-Departure Information:
Before students embark, they will be provided a pre-departure guide that includes important details about their semester abroad. In addition, students may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions.
Orientation:
An orientation is provided to students when they arrive on campus. The orientation is designed to make visiting students feel at home and get settled in before classes begin.
Housing:
Single, furnished self-catered accommodations provided.
Preference is given to international students in the allocation of University accommodation and students applying in time are likely to be accommodated in a University residence hall. All University housing is within walking distance of the main campus.
Academics:
Each student will take three to four courses for a semester. Academic credit and transcripts will be issued by the Queen's University after the successful completion of course requirements for the semester program.
Instruction The academic year is divided into two semesters, and runs from late September until mid-June. Courses are offered on a semester basis Course Credits Students are normally required to take three courses (called modules) in each semester, a total of six for the year, in order to have a full academic course load. Alternative assessment can be arranged for students who must leave before Christmas, thereby missing the January examination period. Transcripts of all assessed work are issued to the student's home college at the end of the Study Abroad period. The entry level required is normally 3.0 GPA.
Courses:
Over 3,000 courses are available in nearly 100 subjects ranging from Accounting and Aeronautical Engineering to Women's Studies and Zoology. Often international students can take courses that contribute towards their degree, but many also take elective courses.
Participant Life:
The campus is located on the attractive south side of the city of Belfast. One of the city's best known thoroughfares is the so-called 'Golden Mile'. This area, right beside the campus, is packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, clubs and cinemas, and is popular with students and young people throughout the year.
Activities:
There are an extensive range of student clubs and societies available to students. In addition, the campus offers some of the best sporting facilities for students in Ireland. Visiting students with an interest in sports will benefit from the unique status of the University as part of both the UK and Irish network of universities. Students who are able to make sports teams will have the opportunity to represent the University in British, Irish and even European varsity competitions.
