study abroad in ireland (university of limerick)

Come spend a semester or a year at what is widely considered the most beautiful university campus in Ireland: the University of Limerick.  The University is only three miles from Limerick, a city rich with traditional Irish culture, situated on the banks of the River Shannon.  Founded by the Vikings over a thousand years ago and home to the famous St. John's Castle, Limerick is simultaneously ancient and modern.  Nestled in the verdant hills of Ireland's west, the University of Limerick combines robust academics with an authentic Irish experience.

Eligibility: A minimum GPA of 2.9 is required.

Pre-Departure Information:

Before students embark on their trip abroad, they will be provided a pre-departure handbook that includes important details about their semester abroad.  In addition to the handbook, students may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions or concerns.

Back_topOrientation:

After arriving in Ireland, students will attend a two-day orientation session that will familiarize them with the campus and surrounding areas.

Back_topHousing:

Students will have a private bedroom within a 'house' occupied by several other students.  Bedrooms include a bed, desk, chair and hand basin, while each house has two showers and two toilets, a full kitchen and a lounge room.  Each house offers cable television, direct-dial telephones, weekly trash pick-up, self-service launderette, and full maintenance service.  Houses are situated in 'villages' on campus with security patrols at night.

Please note that housing is subject to availability.

Food: There are a variety of restaurants on campus, several of which offer vegetarian options.  Shops are only a five minute's walk and students have access to regular bus service to the city center.

Back_topParticipant Life:

The University of Limerick is located only three miles from the bustling city of Limerick in western Ireland.  Well-known for its vibrant night life, Limerick offers plenty of modern clubs as well as more traditional Irish pubs.  Proud home to the ancient St. John's Castle and the Irish World Music Centre, Limerick also has a reputation as a major cultural and historic site.  For sightseers, there is a multitude of walking and hiking trails traversing the famously green countryside, and the Irish capital of Dublin is only a two hour's train ride away.  For international trekkers, the Shannon International Airport is only 30 minutes away.

Over 6,000 full-time and 3,000 part-time students are enrolled at the University of Limerick, many of whom live on campus.  The University offers state-of-the-art sporting facilities, including an elite weight training suite and the first 50 meter swimming pool in Ireland.  The Student Union offers clubs and societies as well as holiday parties, which are a great way to make new friends.
