orphanage assistance in guatemala

Orphans are deprived of many opportunities necessary for their development.  Through education and compassion, children are empowered to challenge a life of further poverty and exploitation.  Volunteers focus on educational training which consists primarily of English language classes.  Volunteers' active participation in programs such as health education, games, drawing, and painting is encouraged.  With such a variety of ways to participate, the orphanage experience provides volunteers many meaningful ways to approach service.

Back_topOrientation:

Upon arrival in Guatemala, participants are met at the airport and given transportation to their volunteering location.  They will receive an orientation that will familiarize them with the town and the surrounding area, Guatemalan culture, and their program.

Back_topHousing:

Participants will stay with local Guatemalan host families.  Host families are very welcoming and enjoy having visitors stay with them.  All host family accommodation includes 3 meals per day.  Living in a host family setting is the best way to practice your Spanish, and participants frequently make friendships that can last a lifetime.

Food: All meals with the host family (3 per day) are included.

Activities:

Up to 4 weeks of Spanish language training are included with a volunteer program of any length.  For example, a 6 week program would include 4 weeks of language training, a 4 week program would include 4 weeks of language training, and a 2 week program would include 2 weeks of language training.

Participants have the option to study Spanish for up to 5 hours, 5 days per week, for the first 4 weeks of their program.
