business and finance internships in ecuador
Individuals with academic or professional experience in finance, business administration, and international business will intern with banks or corporations and gain valuable experience in a wide range of responsibilities.
The beginning of 1999 saw the banking sector in Ecuador collapse, which helped precipitate an unprecedented default on external loans later that year. Continued economic instability drove a 70% depreciation of the currency throughout 1999. The government managed to stabilize the currency by switching to the US dollar in 2000. Ecuador has entered a period of renewed economic recovery and growth that continues to this day.
In addition to an incredible internship, all programs of one month or longer include Spanish language training during the first two weeks. Several excursions are also included to help familiarize participants with the city, the surrounding area, and the Ecuadorian culture. Excursions may include visits to volunteer projects, festivals, city tours, river tours, social events, museum tours, and beach visits.
Eligibility:
Participants are required to take a written language exam in order to assess the appropriate placement in language classes. A follow-up language interview will be conducted after participants arrive in Ecuador. Many internships are available for absolute beginners in Spanish with little experience in their preferred field.
Pre-Departure Information:
Before participants embark, they will be provided a pre-departure guide that includes important details about their experience abroad. In addition to the guide, participants may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions.
Orientation:
Upon arrival in Ecuador, interns receive an orientation that will familiarize them with the city and the surrounding area, the Ecuadorian culture, and the internship. All internships include 2 weeks of Spanish language classes. Class sizes are typically very small giving students a personalized learning experience.
Housing:
Participants stay with local Ecuadorian families in shared and single room accommodations or in intern housing. Accommodations are safe, clean, modest, and comfortable and provide easy access to public transportation.
Participant Life:
In their free-time, participants can spend time in downtown Guayaquil, visit the waterfront area, visit the one of the many museums of Guayaquil, check their e-mail at the Internet Cafe, or explore nearby towns along the Pacific coast.
