Eligibility: Students must have completed at least one year of undergraduate work at their home institution and be in good academic standing.

Pre-Departure Information: Before students embark, they will be provided a pre-departure guide that includes important details about their semester abroad.  In addition to the guide, students may contact World Endeavors any time prior to departure with questions.

Back_topOrientation:

The program provides a comprehensive orientation that will introduce students to life in Australia as well as their fellow students.  Participants will enroll in courses, complete their registration, make friends, and even compete for prizes!

Students can also choose to take part in the Student Mentor Program, which will pair them up with a local Australian student mentor.

Back_topHousing:

Participants will have the opportunity to live on-campus in student housing.  Accommodations typically provide a single study bedroom the opens onto a larger, shared living area.  Housing for international students includes a modern kitchen, laundry facilities and all utilities.  Living on-campus is a great way to get to know other students, both international and local.

Back_topAcademics:

Study abroad students are required to take a full course load while studying in Melbourne.  This means taking a load of 50 credits.  Since most units are worth 12.5 credits, this means that you should plan to take 4 courses per semester.

All study abroad students are urged to register for "Australia: A Global Context," which will give them a wider insight and understanding of their host country.

Instruction:
The Australian method of teaching is slightly different than what participants from the US may be used to.  There is a large emphasis on lectures with occasional tutorial, studio, or laboratory sessions for more in-depth understanding of the topic.  Students are expected to be able to work independently; however, there are numerous learning support systems in place should participants wish to take advantage of them.

Back_topParticipant Life:

Melbourne is a beautiful, clean city that was recently voted the second most livable city in the world.  Participants will find that they will never have trouble finding things to do with their free time.  Apart from the numerous clubs and societies on campus, the city of Melbourne itself is bustling with life.  Concerts, events, festivals, and sporting tournaments are commonplace and are offered year-round.  Participants who are interested in the outdoors will also find that Australia's reputation as one of the best places in the world to go hiking, biking or surfing is not exaggerated.  You can even take a ferry to Tasmania, the island state located to the south of Melbourne.
